Anyone who believes the president when he calls the Russia investigation a “witch hunt” is living in a fantasy world. The most significant takeaway from Trump’s decision to fire Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is that Trump made the call after Tillerson began publicly outing Russia for interfering in U.S. elections.
Mike Pompeo, the current CIA chief, will take over for Tillerson. Why is a U.S. intelligence head moving to the State Department? In some regards, Trump replacing Tillerson with Pompeo is more meaningful than his decision to fire James Comey.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein spoke his mind regarding Mueller’s probe in an interview with USA Today. Rosenstein stated, “The special counsel is not an unguided missile.”
He added, “I don’t believe there is any justification at this point for terminating the special counsel.”
Republican House Intel officials decided to shut down the House Intel probe, concluding that the Trump campaign team did not collude with Russia. However, their decision was just another display of Republican chicanery.
Rosenstein later commented on Republican attacks on the FBI, stating, “I believe much of the criticism will fall by the wayside when people reflect on this era and the Department of Justice.” He continued, “I’m very confident that when the history of this era is written, it will reflect that the department was operated with integrity.”
